HMAC Monthly Luncheon Recap – February 2006

Speaker and Meeting Recap:

The Houston Military Affairs Committee joined with the Houston Forum to hear Lieutenant General Russel Honore, Commanding General, First Army who spoke about his mission in Joint Task Force Katrina. Louisiana’s native son came off the helicopter chomping his cigar and cussin’, said New Orleans mayor Ray Nagin. People started moving. Honore didn’t sign up for this, but he’s become a legend. It happened from the moment his boots hit Canal Street and national tv cameras captured him dressing down soldiers for carrying their firearms with the barrels pointed too high. And it was cemented when he told a reporter that America had to move on. “We ain’t stuck on stupid…and what you’re saying is stuck on stupid.”
