Bio
Lieutenant Colonel Sam Kim received his commission as an Armor officer in 2003 from the United States Military Academy at West Point.
Lt. Col Kim’s first assignment was with the 1st Squadron, 1st Calvary Regiment in Germany, where he served as a tank platoon leader, scout platoon leader, and Squadron maintenance officer. Upon graduating the Special Forces Qualification course, he was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne) in Okinawa, Japan where he commanded a Special Forces Operational Detachment and served as a troop commander in the crisis response force. He subsequently commanded the 39th Special Forces Detachment (Airborne) in the Republic of Korea.
His staff assignments include tours as the Chief of Current Operations at Special Operations Joint Task Force-Afghanistan, and Chief of Future Operations at Special Operations Command-Korea. In his most recent assignment, he served as the Deputy Commander for a forward joint task force supporting Special Operations Command-Pacific. He participated in numerous deployments within the US Indo-Pacific Command and US Central Command areas of responsibility.
Lt. Col Kim graduated West Point with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering Management and holds a Master of Science Degree in Defense Analysis from the Naval Postgraduate School.
His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Senior Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, Military Free Fall Parachutist Badge, Special Forces Tab, and the Ranger Tab.
