Hesam Elgamiel Biography
Special Agent Elgamiel joined the FBI in 2003 and was assigned to the Los Angeles Office working counterterrorism and intelligence matters. During his tenure in Los Angeles, SA Elgamiel participated in TDYs to Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Greece in support of Counterterrorism investigations. Additionally, SA Elgamiel was part of the FBI contingent TDYed to Iraq during the capture of Saddam Hussein in December 2003.
SA Elgamiel was promoted to the position of Assistant Legal Attaché (ALAT), Cairo, Egypt, in February 2010 where he was responsible for all FBI investigative matters in Egypt, Sudan, Libya and Chad. ALAT Elgamiel was the FBI’s senior in-country person during the Arab Spring revolution in January 2011 and assisted in the evacuation of over 800 non-essential USG personnel and their dependents from Egypt. ALAT Elgamiel was subsequently deemed mission essential by the US Ambassador and spent the next several months working to advance US National Security interest in country post revolution.
In June 2013, ALAT Elgamiel was selected to open the FBI’s newest satellite office in Dubai, UAE. Being in a one person office, ALAT Elgamiel was responsible for all FBI investigative programs with nexus to Dubai. ALAT Elgamiel was also responsible of advancing the US Mission in the UAE through strengthening liaison and training opportunities with host nation.
In June 2016, ALAT Elgamiel was promoted to the position of Supervisory Special Agent, FBI Houston, where he currently overseas all International Terrorism investigations in the Houston AOR.
Prior to joining the FBI, SSA Elgamiel was an enlisted member of the USAF 95th Security Police Squadron, Edwards Air Force Base, CA.
