On 15 April 2018, Colonel Chris Govekar became the Joint Team Lead for the Defense Logistics Agency – Energy Center at Fort Belvoir, VA. In this position he is responsible for the 55 Reserve Component Members of all services who provide staff assistance and augmentation to DLA-Energy in furtherance of its mission of providing the Department of Defense and other government agencies with comprehensive energy solutions in the most effective and efficient manner possible. Prior to this assignment COL Govekar served as the Deputy Commander (Support) for the 80th Training Command (The Army School System), located in Richmond, Virginia.

In 1990, COL Govekar was commissioned from the University of Notre Dame and was assigned to the 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carson, Colorado, where he served as an Assistant Battalion S-3, Platoon Leader and Company Executive Officer. Follow on assignments include Assistant Brigade Operations Officer and command of Headquarters Company, 2d Brigade, 82d Airborne Division.

After leaving Active Duty in 1998, COL Govekar’s Army Reserve Service began as Assistant Director of Plans, Training and Mobilization for the 6045th Garrison Support Unit in San Jose, California and includes command of the 3rd Battalion (Chemical), 104th Regiment (The Army School System) in Seattle, Washington, the 641st Regional Support Group in Saint Petersburg, Florida, and the 143d Expeditionary Sustainment Command in Orlando, Florida. His deployment experience includes tours as the Chief of Logistics for Combined Joint Task Force 435 in Kabul, Afghanistan, and as Commander, 143d Expeditionary Sustainment Command/Deputy Commander (Kuwait), 1st Theater Sustainment Command at Arifjan, Kuwait. He also has a tour as Deputy Chief of Plans (Central Gulf) at the United States Central Command in Tampa, Florida.

COL Govekar holds an earned Doctorate in Management, along with 5 other academic degrees, to include a Master of Strategic Studies from the US Army War College. He’s also earned designation as a Joint Qualified Officer and Demonstrated Master Logstician.

He’s a Master Parachutist and recipient of the Legion of Merit, among other personal awards and decorations. He’s a recipient of the Order of Samuel Sharpe from the US Army Ordnance Corps Association as well as the Chemical Corps’ Order of the Dragon and the National Infantry Association’s Order of Saint Maurice, and is a life member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

As a Citizen-Soldier, he is Chief Executive Officer of the 75th Innovation Command in Houston, TX.
