The son of a career Air Force officer, Captain Symons is a graduate of Duke University and earned his commission via Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps in 1993. He was designated a Naval Aviator in April 1996.
Captain Symons’ initial sea tours were with Helicopter Combat Support Squadron TWO (HC-2), Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron TWO SIX (HSC-26), and Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron TWO EIGHT (HSC-28).
Ashore, he served as the MH-60S Deputy Program Manager at the MH-60R/S Fleet Introduction Team, an Fleet Replacement Squadron (FRS) Instructor Pilot with Helicopter Combat Support Squadron THREE (HC-3) and served on staffs at the Office of the Secretary of Defense (Personnel & Readiness), the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations – Air Warfare Directorate (OPNAV N98) and the Office of the Naval Inspector General.
Prior command tours include Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron TWO TWO (HSC-22) and Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron THREE (HSC-3).
Captain Symons holds Master of Science degrees in Global Leadership and National Security and Strategic Studies from the University of San Diego and Naval War College, respectively.
His personal decorations include the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Navy Commendation Medal (six awards), and other personal, unit, campaign, and service awards.
Captain Symons is married to Dr. Christina Massell Symons from Spring, TX and they have two children, Caleb and Kylee.
